The Oyo State Government says five suspects have been arrested and at least 120 soldiers deployed following an attack on a security post along the Igbeti–Igboho axis.
The government announced the arrests and deployment after Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal visited the affected facility, where armed men had attacked security personnel early Sunday and set part of the post and a vehicle ablaze.
The arrests and deployment figure are official claims and have not been independently verified by IDNN.
Police accounts said the attack occurred between about 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on September 13 along the Igbeti–Igboho Road.
Authorities said armed men attacked the security post, damaged property and fled. No casualty was reported in the initial official accounts.
Oyo announces arrests, deployment
The state government said five suspects had been arrested following the attack.
It also said the commanding officer of the 81 Battalion reported that at least 120 soldiers had been deployed into surrounding areas in pursuit of those who fled.
The state government said the five arrested suspects were wearing military uniforms.
Their identities, precise alleged roles and legal status beyond arrest have not been independently established.
An arrest is not proof that a person participated in the attack or committed an offence.
The government also said fire damaged part of the facility and a vehicle during the incident.
What happened at the security post
Reports have variously described the attacked facility as a security post, military outpost and an Operation Burst location.
Because those descriptions are not identical, IDNN is retaining the neutral term “security post” pending a definitive institutional description.
Operation Burst is a joint security arrangement involving military and other security personnel.
Initial accounts said the attackers arrived in significant numbers, opened fire on personnel and left before they could be apprehended.
A local government account also said a generator and motorcycle were taken during the attack. That detail has not been independently established beyond the local account.
Oyo authorities said no casualty was recorded.
The state government also said personnel at the post resisted the attack and that authorities would support efforts to strengthen security in the area.
Security concern around Igbeti
The attack has renewed concern around communities adjoining forest areas in the Oke-Ogun axis.
Oyo authorities have urged residents and traditional rulers to provide credible intelligence to security agencies and announced coordination involving neighbouring local government areas.
Officials have separately raised concerns about illegal mining and other activity around the wider forest corridor.
Those concerns do not establish that illegal mining or any particular network was responsible for the attack.
