Kano police arrest two suspects after political commentator’s killing
Kano State Police say two suspects have been arrested as officers investigate the killing of political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Police said the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on September 8.
According to the command, suspected attackers forced their way into Danshagamu’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
Officers from the Kumbotso Police Division responded and took him to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Two suspects remain under investigation
The Kano State Police Command said two suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation involving the Kumbotso division, tactical units and community stakeholders.
They remain in police custody while the investigation continues.
Their arrest does not establish guilt.
Police said investigators are taking statements and carrying out forensic procedures while efforts continue to identify any other persons who may be involved.
The command also said the suspects would be charged to court if the investigation produces sufficient evidence.
Motive has not been established
Danshagamu was known for public commentary on political, religious and community issues.
His killing has drawn reactions from political figures and rights advocates, some of whom have raised concerns about the safety of outspoken critics.
Those reactions do not establish why he was killed.
Police have not announced a political motive and say investigators are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Any claim that the killing was politically motivated would therefore go beyond the current evidence.

Police say forensic work and further enquiries are ongoing.
