Fire destroys shops in Yobe as traders count losses
A late-night fire has destroyed several shops at the Pumpum Nuri Water Site in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, leaving traders facing losses estimated in the millions of naira.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Yobe State Command, said the fire started at about 11pm on Monday and spread through several shops before it was brought under control.
No casualties were reported as of the latest official account.
The cause of the fire had not been determined, according to the NSCDC, which said an assessment of the damage was still ongoing.
Traders face livelihood losses
Beyond the destroyed structures, the immediate consequence falls on traders and other business owners affected by the blaze.
