Kelechi Iheanacho said he was happy to make the difference for Celtic after scoring the late winner in Sunday’s 2-1 Scottish Premiership victory over Dundee at Dens Park. The Nigerian striker came off the bench to score the decisive goal and keep Celtic firmly in the title race.
Celtic had gone in front through Hyun-Jun Yang, but Dundee levelled through Simon Murray from the penalty spot after a handball decision. Iheanacho then struck late to restore Celtic’s lead and seal all three points. The result moved Celtic to within three points of leaders Hearts.

Iheanacho relishes timely impact
Speaking after the match, Iheanacho said, “It feels good to help the team to get the win today,” and added that Celtic “really showed character” in a difficult game. The official Celtic account of his reaction said the forward was pleased to contribute after an injury-hit spell.
The goal mattered beyond the result. It was Iheanacho’s fourth of the season and his first since early October 2025, ending a scoring drought of about six months. That made the finish important both for Celtic’s title push and for the striker’s own rhythm.

Celtic stay alive in the chase
Sky Sports reported that Celtic needed all three points to stay close in the title race, and Iheanacho delivered at the key moment. His goal came after Celtic had missed earlier chances and then lost control for a spell in the second half.
For Iheanacho, this was the kind of support story that still carries weight. It was a Nigerian player moment, a comeback note, and a title-race intervention in one. Celtic still have work to do, but Sunday’s result ensured they remain in the conversation, and Iheanacho’s finish is now part of that push.
