D’Tigress Add Indiana Fever To Expanded United States Tour Ahead Of 2026 World Cup

D’Tigress Expand U.S. Tour With Indiana Fever Test
Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have added Indiana Fever to their growing United States preseason tour ahead of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The latest fixture will take place on May 2, 2026, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, giving the African champions another elite opponent before the global tournament in Berlin. The Indiana Fever confirmed the game as part of their 2026 preseason schedule on their official site.

Three Cities, Three WNBA Opponents
The Indiana fixture now becomes the third confirmed game of D’Tigress’ U.S. build-up.

Nigeria had already lined up a meeting with the Los Angeles Sparks in San Diego on April 25, followed by another exhibition clash against the Minnesota Lynx in Kansas City on April 27. Earlier reporting in Nigeria had already flagged the Lynx fixture as part of the team’s World Cup preparation plans.

That means D’Tigress will now play across San Diego, Kansas City, and Indianapolis during the tour.

Strategic World Cup Preparation
The Nigeria Basketball Federation appears to be using the tour to expose the team to a higher level of competition before the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The tournament will take place in Berlin from September 4 to 13, 2026, and Nigeria already secured qualification after winning the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket title. That victory confirmed D’Tigress as Africa’s leading women’s basketball side once again.

Although Nigeria recorded mixed results during the recent World Cup qualifying tournament in France, the games mainly served as preparation because the team had already qualified for Berlin. D’Tigress beat Colombia and the Philippines, but lost to South Korea, France, and Germany during that stretch.

A Bigger Test For Nigeria’s Core
The expanded U.S. schedule gives head coach Rena Wakama and her players a rare opportunity to face WNBA-level opposition in quick succession.

That should help sharpen the team physically and tactically ahead of a major international campaign. It also offers a strong benchmark for a Nigerian side currently ranked among the top women’s basketball teams in the world.

For D’Tigress, this is no longer just a tour. It is now a serious competitive dress rehearsal before the World Cup.
