Senate Confirms Bernard Doro as Minister of the Federal Republic

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr Bernard Doro as Minister of the Federal Republic, following a short but emphatic screening session.

Doro, a Plateau-born professional with over 20 years’ experience in pharmacy, clinical practice, and strategic management, assured senators of fairness, independence, and transparency in his role.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” Doro said while taking questions on service delivery.

Senators described him as “eminently qualified,” clearing him without objection after less than 30 minutes of deliberation.

His appointment fills a cabinet vacancy created by the elevation of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, now National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Impact Snapshot

  • Plateau strengthens federal presence with three ministerial portfolios.
  • Humanitarian sector gains a clinical reformer with private-sector discipline.
  • Senate accelerates approvals to sustain governance continuity.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Doro as “a high-capacity technocrat with global practice credentials.”

Born in Kwall, Bassa LGA, Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice. He previously served in the UK’s National Health Service as an advanced practitioner.

Expanding Cabinet, Balancing Politics

Doro’s confirmation, analysts note, completes Plateau’s three-minister spread — part of a broader balancing act within Tinubu’s coalition. It reflects a careful recalibration of representation as the President consolidates regional trust before 2027.
