Oyo deploys 2,000 operatives ahead of Ladoja’s crowning

Oyo State officials announced the deployment of more than 2,000 security operatives to guarantee order during the coronation of Senator Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. “Their commitment to maintaining order is paramount,” Commissioner Ademola Ojo said at a palace briefing, signalling a high-security posture for the September 26 ceremony at Mapo Hall.

The multi-agency deployment includes Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), NSCDC, Amotekun and the OYRTMA. The week-long programme — featuring interfaith prayers, a cultural fiesta and a coronation lecture by Prof. Toyin Falola — will culminate with national leaders and traditional rulers in attendance, according to the planning committee.

Security, symbolism and national turnout

With President Tinubu and other national figures expected, the security mobilization aims to protect both ceremony logistics and the thousands of visitors expected. Officials framed the heavy deployment not as a sign of threat but as preparation for a high-profile national event. For Ibadan’s residents and diaspora, Ladoja’s installation is both cultural affirmation and political theatre — attracting national attention and economic activity.
