Alan Shearer Slams Alexander Isak Over Liverpool Transfer Push

By IDNN Sports Desk

The tension between Alexander Isak and Newcastle United has escalated after the Swedish striker pushed to join Liverpool, drawing fierce criticism from club legend Alan Shearer.

Isak refused to join Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, intensifying speculation about his desire to leave. Manager Eddie Howe has since excluded him from matchday squads, confirming the forward’s uncertain future.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Shearer said Isak’s conduct betrayed the loyalty owed to Newcastle fans:

“You’ve got a player earning over £100,000 a week, and with three years left on his contract, he suddenly says ‘I don’t want to play for you anymore.’ That stings the fans — loyalty has become a non-starter.”

Shearer compared the situation to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s exit from PSG, saying clubs and players both act selfishly, but insisting there are professional ways to handle transfers.

Newcastle supporters have echoed Shearer’s frustration. Chants criticising Isak rang out during the Magpies’ opening-day draw with Aston Villa, highlighting the growing rift between player and fans.

Liverpool are believed to be pushing to finalise a deal before the transfer window closes. Newcastle have already rejected at least one bid, but Isak is reportedly convinced that his future lies at Anfield.

Analysts warn that dragging the saga could destabilise Howe’s squad as the season kicks into gear. For Isak, once a talisman in Newcastle’s attack, the standoff risks tarnishing his reputation among the supporters who once adored him.
