Portable Releases ‘Plane Stopper’ Single Inspired by KWAM1 Airport Drama

Street-pop star Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has released a new single titled Plane Stopper, drawing inspiration from the August 5 airport altercation involving Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM1).

In an Instagram teaser that quickly trended, Portable performed snippets of the track, which sides with KWAM1’s account that the flask at the centre of the controversy contained water rather than alcohol. The song also playfully references the musician’s “sharp reflexes” in dodging the wing of an incoming plane — a detail from social media chatter around the incident.

The single continues Portable’s trademark style of turning viral news and controversies into music. Earlier this year, he released Oni Reason days after being freed in a defamation case involving fellow Fuji star Saheed Osupa, followed by the Most Wanted EP amid an assault-related police warrant in Ogun State.

“Every headline is a song waiting to happen,” Portable said in a behind-the-scenes clip shared with fans.

His biggest hit since Zazzu Zeh came from international collaborations, including Tony Montana with British-Nigerian rapper Skepta and a Canadian tour that produced the single Canadian Burger.

With Plane Stopper, Portable reinforces his knack for capitalising on trending moments, merging social commentary with infectious beats to keep his name — and his music — in the headlines.
