Wike Demands Release of NDDC Forensic Audit, Accuses Amaechi’s Wife of ₦4bn Monthly Payments

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has made explosive allegations against his predecessor and political rival, Rotimi Amaechi, demanding the release of a long-buried forensic audit report on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In a fiery interview on Politics Today (Channels TV), Wike accused Amaechi’s wife, Judith Amaechi, of receiving ₦4 billion monthly through a company contracted to “train women” under the NDDC’s social programs—totaling ₦48 billion annually.
“Through Amaechi’s wife’s company, ₦4bn was being received every month. That’s ₦48bn a year. The forensic report is there. Who buried it? Malami buried it,” Wike alleged.
“Let Mr. President, please, do us a favour and release that document.”
Audit That Never Saw the Light
The NDDC forensic audit, commissioned under former President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate financial mismanagement between 2001 and 2019, has remained unpublished since 2021.
Wike insisted that the report contains proof of extensive looting and unfulfilled contracts, and accused former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami of suppressing it to shield implicated officials.
“That’s how his wife became an industrialist—₦4 billion every month to train Niger Delta women,” Wike fumed.
“If I’m lying, let them release the audit. If it’s not in that report, I will resign as FCT Minister.”
Amaechi’s Defense: “My Wife’s an Industrialist”
In a preceding interview on the same program, Amaechi had described his wife as “almost an industrialist,” claiming she was already a businesswoman before he entered public office.
“My wife buys and sells everything—except myself and my children,” Amaechi said.
“She’s a trader. Even as governor, she sold inside Government House.”
He denied benefiting from public contracts and dismissed allegations of using his influence to enrich family members.
Wike vs Amaechi: The Political Civil War Continues
The decades-long rivalry between the two Rivers-born politicians has intensified in recent weeks. Amaechi had earlier challenged Wike’s relevance, mocking him to attempt a “popularity walk from Abuja to Port Harcourt.”
Wike, in turn, questioned Amaechi’s integrity, describing him as “one of the most corrupt” and daring him to refute the audit findings if they’re ever made public.
“He took a car from a contractor. That’s what he did. That’s bribery—not what I did,” Wike fired back.
He also dismissed Amaechi’s “modest background” narrative, contrasting their upbringings.
“I’m not a bush man. My father had a duplex on Ikwerre Road in 1980. I didn’t grow up like him,” Wike said.
SERAP Joins the Call for Audit Transparency
Earlier in the week, civil society group SERAP had also urged President Tinubu to publish the forensic audit and prosecute those named.
“Obstructing the audit’s release is an attempt to pervert justice,” SERAP said.
“The document must be released immediately.”
