Manchester City Hit With £1.08m Fine Over Repeated Kick-Off Delays

By IDNN Sports Desk

Manchester City have been slapped with a £1.08 million fine by the Premier League after the reigning English champions repeatedly breached match start-time regulations during the 2023/24 season.

According to an official statement released Thursday, Pep Guardiola’s side failed to comply with scheduled kick-off and restart times on nine occasions between October 2023 and February 2024. The most significant infraction came during the high-profile Manchester Derby at Old Trafford, where the second half began two minutes and 24 seconds late.

“These rules are essential to uphold the professional standards and logistical certainty of the league,” the Premier League said. “Timely kick-offs ensure fans, broadcasters, and clubs enjoy a predictable matchday experience.”

City have acknowledged the violations and issued a formal apology. This is not their first brush with time-related sanctions—last year, the club was fined over £2 million for 22 similar delays.

The financial penalty adds to a forgettable campaign for the Treble winners, who finished third in the league and were defeated by Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final. Manchester City are currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
