MINNA, NIGER STATE — The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army have neutralised 45 armed bandits in a precision military operation targeting insurgent strongholds in the Kuchi-Kontagora forest axis of Niger State.
According to military intelligence sources, the assault was the culmination of weeks of surveillance and signal intercepts, targeting a cell linked to Dogo Gide, one of Nigeria’s most wanted terror leaders operating in the North Central region.
“The strike was successful. We have degraded a key node in the bandit network threatening Niger State,” said a senior DSS commander who spoke anonymously to IDNN.

The offensive follows multiple attacks on villages, highways, and security formations in Niger and Zamfara by cells affiliated with the Dogo Gide command.
TACTICAL BREAKTHROUGH, STRATEGIC SIGNIFICANCE
The strike is being hailed as the most successful anti-bandit operation in Niger State since 2023, and may shift the momentum in favour of security forces struggling to contain multi-state rural insurgency.
“This is a game changer,” said Lt-Col. Jide Abubakar, a counterterrorism analyst.
“The Dogo Gide faction has lost its main logistics corridor in Niger.”
The Nigerian Air Force provided air support using ISR drones and Mi-35 attack helicopters, enabling ground units to execute a surprise multi-pronged assault.
VICTIM COMMUNITIES SPEAK OUT
Residents of Madaka, Zungeru, and Kuchi, previously overrun by bandits, confirmed hearing explosions and gunfire from the forest, and say this is the first time in two years they’ve felt safe sleeping at night.
“They killed our youth, stole our cattle, and made us flee. Let the military finish them off this time,” said Yusuf Bala, a local vigilante leader.
WHAT NEXT FOR THE BANDIT WAR?
Analysts caution that while this is a major win, Dogo Gide remains at large, and smaller terror cells could regroup.
