“Peter Obi Is Not Opposition” — Sowore Blasts LP Leader’s Silence on Fuel, Governance

Sowore Fires Shot: Obi “Just Airbnb Candidate,” Not Opposition

By: IDNN Politics

Fiery rights activist and former AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has launched a scathing critique of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, dismissing him as an unserious opposition figure and labeling his 2023 campaign a political Airbnb arrangement.

Speaking on Channels Television, Sowore accused Obi of doing nothing in the face of the Tinubu administration’s fuel hikes, economic hardship, and civil protests. “I don’t know why anybody refers to Peter Obi as an opposition. He’s not opposed to anything this government is doing,” he stated.

Sowore, who was also a candidate in the 2023 presidential election, doubled down on his long-held view that Obi lacked the ideological and strategic depth to challenge Nigeria’s entrenched power systems.

“No Mobilisation, No Resistance — Just Media Love”

Sowore pointedly noted Obi’s refusal to mobilize his supporters or challenge the system with coordinated protest or political resistance.

“You had six million people vote for you. If you can’t put all of them on the streets, at least put 60,000 in Abuja and see how seriously the government will take you,” he said.

He also blamed Obi’s 2023 electoral momentum on religious backlash to the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, rather than any substantial policy offering or revolutionary intent.

“There was a debate around Islamisation. Christians reacted, and Obi was the available Christian candidate. That was the spark,” he added.

“When They’re Done With Him, They’ll Move On”

Sowore compared Obi’s leadership of the Labour Party to a short-term tenancy: “I said in 2022 and 2023 — Labour Party was a short rental. Airbnb. When they are done with Obi, they’ll move the rental to someone else.”

He accused Obi and his team of weakening real protest movements: “They are the ones pouring cold water on protests because they don’t want real change — they just want to replace Tinubu’s group with their own.”
