Arsenal Stunned by Bournemouth As Arteta Urges Players to Channel Their “Rage” for PSG

Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League dreams hit turbulence after a shock 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday—just days before their decisive UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

While manager Mikel Arteta admitted his side could be forgiven for having “one eye on Paris,” he made no excuses for their defensive lapses that allowed the visitors to come from behind and complete their first-ever league double over the Gunners.

⚽ Rice Scores on 100th Appearance, But Arsenal Crumble

Declan Rice marked his milestone 100th game with a composed first-half finish, following slick buildup involving Ødegaard and Martinelli. But Bournemouth hit back with two second-half goals: a glancing header from Dean Huijsen, and a controversial late winner by Evanilson, awarded despite VAR reviews suggesting a possible handball.

“What we’ve created is rage, frustration, and a bad feeling in the tummy,” said Arteta post-match. “We must turn that into fuel for Paris.”

 Arteta Gambles on Team Selection

Arteta rotated minimally despite the looming PSG clash, with only two changes from the first leg, including Jurrien Timber, who didn’t feature due to injury uncertainty. Arsenal trail 1-0 going into the second leg and now must juggle UCL ambition with a top-two league finish under threat.

 League Pressure Mounts

Arsenal need at least six points from their remaining three matches — including showdowns against Liverpool and Newcastle — to secure Champions League football next season. After this loss, they sit just four points above fifth-place Tottenham.
