INEC Declares: “You Can Recall Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as Many Times as You Like!”
INEC Natasha recall saga has taken a dramatic turn as the electoral commission declared that there’s no legal limit on how many times a senator can be subjected to recall. This bombshell comes amid fresh efforts to oust Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate, following a failed recall attempt just days ago.
Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, made the explosive revelation during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels TV.
“The constitution does not restrict how many times a lawmaker can face a recall,” he said, referencing Section 69 of the Nigerian Constitution. “As long as the process is followed and the threshold is met, it’s fair game.”
This comes on the heels of a failed recall petition, led by Charity Omole, which cited Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Senate suspension as justification for her removal. Omole claimed 250,000 out of 488,000 registered voters signed the petition. INEC, however, shut the process down, saying it was incomplete and didn’t meet verification standards.
But that hasn’t stopped Akpoti-Uduaghan’s critics — and now INEC has all but told them to “try again, and again… and again.”
INEC denies any political bias, insisting it only asked the petitioners to fix technical errors like missing contact details.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, on the other hand, isn’t buying it. She accuses the commission of collaborating with a pro-APC group, Kogi Central Political Frontier, to manipulate the process, calling it “a rigged charade” and “illicit sabotage.”
With tensions boiling in Kogi Central, and INEC confirming that no limit exists on how many recall attempts can be launched, this political saga is far from over.Political observers say this could set a dangerous precedent — one where recall becomes less about accountability and more about harassment. But INEC says it’s simply the law: if the numbers add up, the people can act — again and again.
