Osun Governor Issues Stern Warning Amid Renewed Conflict Threats
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has threatened to remove any traditional ruler who fails to maintain peace in their community. The warning follows reports of fresh tensions in the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities located in Orolu and Irepodun LGAs.
Adeleke made this known in a statement released by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Monday.
“Royal fathers of each town must call their subjects to order. I will wield the big stick. Enough is enough,” the governor stated.
Security on Alert as Sallah Tension Rises
Governor Adeleke revealed that intelligence reports indicated plans for renewed attacks by unnamed groups during the Sallah period. He noted that security agencies have already intensified surveillance and are interrogating key actors involved in the ongoing crisis.
“The peace agreements they signed are not jokes. There will be legal consequences,” Adeleke warned.
💬 Relaxed Curfew May Be Reinstated If Violence Returns
The governor clarified that the recent relaxation of the curfew in the affected areas was based on humanitarian concerns. He cautioned that any attempt to exploit this adjustment to reignite violence would lead to a full return of the 24-hour curfew.
“We relaxed the curfew because innocent people were suffering,” he said.
“But if violence erupts again, the full curfew will return — and monarchs will be held responsible.”
Traditional Rulers Face Accountability
Adeleke emphasized that any monarch who fails to maintain law and order will be removed from office. He called on community leaders to live up to their responsibilities and prevent further escalation.
“I will remove from office any traditional ruler where violence recurs. This card is on the table,” he concluded.
